Jack Purcell

January 11,1929—February 13, 2019

Jackie (Jack) Francis Purcell 90 From Algona, IA died peacefully on Wednesday February 13th, 2019. 

A Celebration of Life Service was held at 11:15 AM Saturday February 23rd at Lentz Funeral Home 403 E. McGregor St, Algona, Iowa. The burial followed after at Riverside Cemetery.

Jack was born on January 11th, 1929 in Mt. Pulaski, IL. to Everett and Dorothy (Dunn) Purcell. Jack had 6 other brothers and 3 sisters. Born deaf at birth, (his younger brother Clarence was also deaf at birth) Jack attended the Illinois School for the Deaf and graduated in 1947. Jack loved being a boy scout and finished as an Eagle Scout. He also attended a technical school ito learn the printing trade, and on May 15th, 1953 he began working at the Algona Publishing Company and would work there for the next 53 years. 

In the summer of 1956 Jack drove to Sioux Falls, SD to attend a softball game at the South Dakota School for the Deaf. There he met and fell in love with the beautiful young women named Doris Jean Rehfeldt and the 2 would get married on Sept 1st, 1957. Jack and Doris made a great life together for the next 7 decades in Algona.

Jack and Doris had 5 kids. Dan Purcell (Shawn), Deb (Purcell) Brody, Tom Purcell (Joni), Susan Purcell and Jim Purcell (Kerstin).

Jack Is survived by his wife Doris & daughter Deb Brody, 3 sons Dan Purcell, Tom Purcell and Jim Purcell. (daughter Susan passed away in 2006). Jack has 15 grandchildren & 13 great grandchildren. He is also is survived by 3 brothers and one sister.
