Bobby Goettsch

May 23, 1955—November 27, 2018

Robert A. Goettsch, 63 of Bakersfield, CA passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Hoffman Hospice after a long illness.

Robert was born on May 23, 1955 in Cherokee, Iowa the son of Robert S. Goettsch and Beverly (Miles) Petersen. He grew up in Orange City, Iowa and attended Iowa School for the Deaf. He graduated from ISD in 1973.  A friend's quote "A sad day for ISD and the deaf community. Everyone who knew him, loved him."

Bob made a career in construction work and carpentry. He was a handyman, skilled in wordworking and stained glass. He was also known for his love of sports. He was a player as well as a coach in football, basketball and softball. But later in life, his favorite activity and passion was the game of golf. There were times when he played everyday of the week even if just to practice.

Survivors include his mother, Beverly Petersen, five siblings; Gloria Goettsch, Barbara Mathis (Mike), Linda Bleich, Raymond and Russell Goettsch. Four nephews and 1 niece, Jeramy Bleich, Michael and Jacob Goettsch, Preston and Holly Mathis. He is preceded in death by his father Robert S. Goettsch.

The family would like to thank AIS Cancer Center and Hoffman Hospice for their kind treatment helping Bobby through his illness.

Services will be held Saturday, December 15 at 1:00 pm at 8536 Kern Canyon Estate Clubhouse. A second service, a celebration of life will be held at Marina Park in Ventura, CA at a later date in 2019. Family and friends are welcome to attend either or both services.
