Lois A. Carlson, 71, of Council Bluffs, died September 14, 2018, at her residence.

Lois Ann (Cole) Carlson was born May 1, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Bernard and Marcene (Pottebaum) Cole. She was raised in Kingsley, Iowa, and graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School. She attended Briar Cliff University, in Sioux City, and completed her education at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City, Iowa, with a degree in speech pathology and an emphasis in deaf education. Lois worked as a teacher at the Iowa School for the Deaf (ISD) during the entirety of her career, until her retirement in 2003. She was dedicated to her students and her profession and continued to work at ISD, occasionally serving as a substitute teacher, until last year.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Cole; and husband, Donald Carlson.

Survivors include brothers, James Cole, of Long Beach, Calif., Joseph (Lori) Cole, of Chicago, Ill., and Raymond (Susan) Cole, of Clive, Iowa; sisters, Linda (Mark) Johanson, of Woodsville, N.H., and Janet Cole, of Houston, Texas; brothers-in-law, Robert Carlson, of Omaha, Neb., and Thomas Carlson, of Lincoln, Neb.; sister-in-law, Lou Ann Leland, of O'Fallon, Ill.; and twelve nieces and nephews.

Prayer service at 6 p.m. with visitation until 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials will be directed by the family.
